Bealings Challenge Cup to be held on Suffolk Open Weekend 24th July 2010

Please put Saturday 24th July 2010 in your diaries, so you don’t miss out on the next village event.

Suffolk Coastal District Council, has launched ‘Suffolk Open Weekend’ to enable parish or town councils, community groups and groups of individuals across Suffolk to hold small cultural and sporting events to mark London 2012 Open Weekend.

Great and Little Bealings Parish Councils have together applied for a small grant to help organise a day of sporting activities on the John Belstead Playing field and Sports Court on Saturday 24th July.

We want to get teams from each village to play each other for the Bealings Challenge Cup, which will be awarded by a well known sporting celebrity on the day.

There will be a food and drink marquee, to keep you fully refreshed, and any funds raised will be put towards the running costs of the playing field and sports court. Events on the day will include:

U.16 and over 16 5-a-side football, tennis and Netball matches, Boules, Penalty shoot out, and Tug of War.

We need volunteers from each village to organise their teams, help with catering and refreshments, and setting up and taking down marquees..

Keith Beaumont on 610032 is looking for volunteers from Little Bealings, and
Julian Haywood Smith on 735880 is co-ordinating the Great Bealings effort.

If you would like to participate, or help, please get in touch with them, so they can get you involved. There may need to be one or two meetings at a convenient venue, to help decide the best way of getting things done, but these will be very informal and usually part of the fun.

5 November 2009 - house break-in

This mail came to us via the Grundisburgh Mail Group - you may be interested in its contents.

Someone broke into a house at Holly Lane in Little Bealings between 10.30am and 10.45am yesterday morning, Tuesday 3 November. A resident at the property heard the front door open and saw two males standing in the doorway. Both fled when they realised they had been spotted. It was then discovered the house had been broken into and its thought one of the men broke in and was then letting the second man in. It appears nothing was stolen. Both of the males are described as white, in their late teens to early 20s and were wearing dark coloured tracksuits and baseball caps. One was of average build, around 5ft 10ins tall and also wore a scarf partially over his face. Did you see anyone meeting this description in the area around this time or do you know who they are? Anyone who saw anything that may help enquiries or who may have information about those involved is asked to call DC 288 Gooch at Woodbridge CID on 01473 613500.
Police are also urging residents to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to officers immediately using 999

22 October 2009 - Bealings and Playford News

Dear Bealings or Playford resident,

We’re sending you this email following the feedback from the Parish Plan that residents would like to see improvements to communications in the villages. We have decided to follow the lead of Grundisburgh and set up a Google Mail account to send out information of interest to local residents. We will be advertising the system in the Benefice Newsletter, but we have decided to kick start the system by using the email addresses supplied in the responses to the Parish Plan. If you don’t want to be contacted in this way, simply reply to this mail by saying “Please take me off your list” and we’ll do that straight away.

Messages are sent as a “blind copy”, which means that members will not have access to other member’s identities and Email addresses. The only people who have access to member’s identities will be the organisers, Sarah Cartwright and myself, and will not be passed on to other organisations or used for any other purpose. Information will be non-commercial, except for local businesses, and will be confined to Bealings and Playford events, and could include information about..

  • Church & Chapel
  • Village Hall news and events
  • The School
  • Parish council meetings/consultations etc
  • Police alerts
  • Travel information

and much more, in fact everything that is going on in our villages and very likely to be some things you have missed in the past.

If you have news you would like publicised to people in Bealings and Playford, please send it to

for Sarah or I to forward on.

Best wishes,

Phil Holmes

This sounds like a great idea! Please pass on my thanks and those of other BYAT ( Bealings Youth Action Theatre) parents to Margaret and Roger Roseboom for all their considerable work with our children in the latest production. They are an amazing and inspirational couple and much appreciated by all of us.
